About ONMA
Onye N'Chebe Martial Arts is a mixed martial arts program created to promote physical fitness, self-development, and empowerment within all students through training in the African and Diasporic striking, wrestling and weapons-based martial arts systems.
My name is Samuel Godwin, and I have been practicing martial arts for over 17 years. My journey started at age 11 with Taekwondo, where I would continue to train up until I discovered Budo, which was a martial arts program that included not only Taekwondo, but Karate, Judo and Aikido as well. After 6 years of training in Budo, my curiosity for African martial arts began to spark. This has led me to Historical African Martial Arts (HAMA), to which I have been involved with for 6 years and counting. Currently, I train in Capoeira, Modern Tahtib, Al Matrag, Zulu Stick Fighting, Moraingy, and Historical African Fencing.
I started this program with a mission to spread awareness for HAMA in the City of Brotherly Love. My goal is to teach children and adults the rich culture of Africa's martial arts and to empower those with the skillset to protect themselves and their love ones.
